Born in Novosibirsk in 1972 to a musical family, Alexander Trostiansky attended the Novosibirsk Conservatory’s Special Music School under  M.Liberman.  He entered the Moscow Conservatory in 1990, where he obtained  his undergraduate degree and undertook doctoral studies with  Professor I.Bochkova.
Trostiansky is a winner of several prestigious international competitions.

He won the Premio Paganini in Genoa in 1990; was awarded First Prize at the 1996 Centre d’Arts competition in Orford, Canada; and received Prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow in 1998. As the First Violinist of the Davidov Quartet from 1991-93, he was winner at the Rome International Competition, and won Prize as a member of a Duo with Dina Vainshtein at the Franz Schubert and 20th Century Music International Competition, Graz (Austria) each year from 1997-2000.

During the 2000-2001 season, he  formed a very successful duo with harpist Anna Verkholantseva  and, sponsored by the Victor Salvi Foundation, they gave concerts in London (Covent Garden), Italy (Venice) and the USA (San Francisco, Chicago and also in New York, where they played et Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall). A wonderful CD of their recital programme was issued by Egan Records in 2001.

As soloist, Trostiansky has participated in the Moscow Autumn, Musik im Michel, December Evenings (named in honor of S. Richter), and other festivals. He has also appeared in recital and as a soloist with orchestras in Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey, USA, France, and throughout Russia. Trostiansky appeared with the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Y.Bashmet, on its 1996 tour to the USA; the tour included a performance at Carnegie Hall. He was also the violinist in the  Moscow Philharmonic Society Romantic Trio  under whose auspices the Trio performed concerts throughout Europe and Russia.
Alexander Trostiansky became Professor I.Bochkova's assistant at the Moscow Conservatory in 1997, and a  Professor himself in 1999. 

He presently gives master classes in Canada, England, France, Portugal, USA, and Russia.

He has recorded for the Melodia, Vista Vera, Chandos, Dowani, and Egan labels.

“…..Playing unaccompanied for the first half, I had to admire his poise and confidence during Bach’s Sonata in C

But it was during a work by Paganini, where he sustained the melody on one sting while playing pizzicato on the others that amazed me.

Paganini thought he alone would be capable of playing the piece. Alexander proved him wrong.
